What should I bring to a Mini Driving School lesson?
For your Mini Driving School lesson, please bring your learner permit (or your overseas driver licence if you don’t have a learner permit), your logbook/myLearners app (if required), and the lesson fee or payment confirmation.
How long are Mini Driving School lessons?

Can I take driving lessons without a learner permit?
Mini Driving School accepts students with a valid overseas driver licence; you can book lessons without a learner permit.
How many lessons do I need to pass the VicRoads Drive Test?
Every learner is different. If you’re already an experienced driver, many students pass with 1–5 targeted lessons focused on VicRoads test criteria. Newer drivers usually benefit from a structured package (60–90-minute sessions plus a mock test) to build road-rule knowledge, hazard perception, and test-route confidence.

Am I allowed to have my instructor in the vehicle during the test?
Yes—if you book our Mini Driving School car (dual controls), your instructor may sit in the front passenger seat during your VicRoads Drive Test as an observer. They cannot coach, repeat instructions, or point directions—only the VicRoads licence testing officer may give directions. If you need language support, VicRoads can arrange an interpreter for the test.

How do I switch my overseas licence to a local licence?
Mini Driving School: VicRoads recognises international driver licences from certain countries for direct conversion. For all other countries, Overseas Licence Verification is required. All applicants must pass the Learner Permit Knowledge Test and Hazard Perception Test to sit the Drive Test.

What identity documents do I need to bring to my Drive Test?
Bring your Learner Permit to your Probationary Drive Test.
If you’re taking an Overseas Licence test, bring your overseas licence plus three forms of identification:
Category A: Original passport or full Australian birth certificate
Category B: Medicare card or bank card
Proof of Victorian residence: Bank statement, lease, or rental agreement
What is Keys2drive free lesson?
Keys2drive is a government-funded program that provides learner drivers and their parents or supervising drivers a free lesson with a Keys2drive-accredited professional instructor. Most of our instructors are Keys2drive-accredited.

Do your vehicles have dual controls?
Yes. Mini Driving all vehicles are fitted with dual controls.
Am I allowed to cancel my driving session?
A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule; otherwise the full lesson fee applies (or is deducted from your allocation).
Am I covered by insurance in Mini Driving’s car?
Fully insured lessons across Melbourne. All Mini Driving instructors are police-checked and have a valid Working with Children Check.
